The existing Dream Playground (Pioneer Park) in Harlan has been a great
source of outdoor activity and family entertainment for 27 years. However, due to time and weather, it is showing signs of stress and fatigue and needs to be replaced before it becomes hazardous. Spearheaded by the City of Harlan, a Community Steering Committee was formed to start this project. Four manufacturers were interviewed and one was selected for final design.
The project involves demolition of the existing playground and replace it with a safe, all-inclusive playground with poured in place fall protection. The project also includes a new, expanded parking area and a new restroom structure adjacent to the play area.
The projected cost of the project is $1.66 million; $800K for playground equipment and surfacing and an additional $800K for a restroom, parking and infrastructure.
