The playground is designed to provide opportunities for people of all ages and abilities, including those with special needs, to enjoy using the equipment and participating in fun outdoor activities. The playground will feature:
• Rubberized safety surface that improves accessibility and softens falls
• Ramps throughout the playground so children with mobility disabilities can get to all features
• Equipment at heights that is accessible by wheelchair
• A merry-go-round with high backed seats and transfer points from wheel chair or walker
• Adaptive see saw, accessible glider, sensory components and many more special features
An All-Inclusive playground does not exist in Shelby County. The All-Inclusive playground will offer access to this adaptive park feature to residents and visitors to the area.
The Playground will be replacing the current Dream Playground (Pioneer Park) on Willow St. in Harlan.
To demolish existing playground, build the new playground, purchase and install the equipment, parking lot, bathroom and other miscellaneous features the project will cost $1,580.250 to complete. Our goal is to raise money in two phases, approximately $800,000 for each phase.
This project will be spearheaded by the City of Harlan.
